Patient Spotlight: Four-year-old Carolyn

The team operates on a patient in April 2022 (Carolyn not pictured).

Four-year-old Carolyn, rode with her mother to the nearest health center when a large cyst on the back of her leg began making it difficult to walk. There was no equipment or materials to do the operation at the health center, so they referred her to Kabudula. Carolyn and her mother then rode on the back of a motorcycle for an hour to reach Kab. Carolyn and her mom are so grateful to have been selected by AHA’s surgical program because Carolyn will be able to walk properly again, and they could not afford to pay for the surgery or the transportation for assistance elsewhere.

Transportation is difficult for poor people.
